 | Wrong-site surgery, consisting of surgery performed on the wrong patients or at the wrong location or side, or of the wrong procedure, is considered a medical error and not a medical risk for surgery. Wrong-site surgery is included as a Serious Reportable Event by the National Quality Forum, and in some states reports are made public and disciplinary action taken against surgeons. The state of Pennsylvania requires reporting of wrong-site surgery, which formed the database for this report. - Getting Surgery Right
