Medscape Help: Features

Rating Articles

Who can rate Medscape content?

Medscape members who are registered as Physicians, Nurses, Pharmacists, Physician Assistants, and Medical Students.

How do I rate an article?

Roll your mouse over the stars next to "Rate this Article" located at the top or bottom of an article page, and click to select the number of stars you would like to rate an article. The scale ranges from 1 to 5 stars, 5 stars being the highest rating.

How is an article's average rating calculated?

Once you rate an article, you will then see the average score from your profession displayed next to it. For example, a nurse will see the average rating by nurses, and a physician will see the average rating by physicians.

What top rated articles are displayed on an article page?

Articles are displayed according to the specialty or professional site in which you are reading the article. For example, a Nurse reading an article in the Medscape Cardiology site will see Top Rated Articles by Cardiologists, and a Physician reading an article in the Medscape Nurses site will see Top Rated Articles by Nurses. Specialty sites that are not associated with a specialty or profession (ex: Medscape Today, Business of Medicine) will display top rated articles by your profession. For example, a Medical Student reading an article on the Business of Medicine site will see Top Rated Articles by Medical Students, but a Physician reading that same article on the Business of Medicine site will see Top Rated Articles by Physicians.

Can I change my rating on an article?

At this time you are unable to change your article rating once it has been made. At a later date this option will be available to members, and then only your most recent rating will be counted in the article’s average rating.

Are my votes anonymous?

Yes, we will not share how you voted on articles. However, we will count your vote towards the aggregate rating by your specialty or profession.
