Carol Peckham has spent over 30 years in medical publishing. In 1978, she helped develop and launch Scientific American Medicine (SAM), and in 1984, she was made its Publisher and a Vice President of Scientific American, Inc. During that period, she launched a CD version of SAM, an electronic CME program, and oversaw the development and launch of Care of the Surgical Patient. (These publications have since been revised and relaunched by WebMD as ACP Medicine and ACS Surgery.) She left Scientific American in 1991 to start her own company, Nidus Information Services, Inc. In 1993, she and her partner launched Well-Connected, a series of 103 in-depth white papers for patients, available in print and on the Internet. WebMD and Medscape were among the sites that licensed the content during that period. After 10 years, they sold their company to ADAM, Inc., and Carol Peckham joined the company as the Editorial Director of Well-Connected. She came to Medscape in 2004 where she is currently Director of Editorial Development.
