She received her bachelor's degree in psychology from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. During college, she also worked at a state psychiatric hospital. After college, she worked at the Association of American Medical Colleges in Washington, DC, before enrolling in medical school. Robert M. Centor, MD
Robert M. Centor, MDRobert M. Centor, MD, is currently the Associate Dean for the Huntsville Regional Medical, and Director for the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He moved to Birmingham in 1993 after many years at the Medical College of Virginia. He also served as the Interim Dean of the Tuscaloosa Clinical Campus for the University of Alabama School of Medicine from 1995 to 1997. Dr. Centor finished his undergraduate work at the University of Virginia in 1971 and finished medical school at the Medical College of Virginia in 1975. He then joined the housestaff, eventually becoming chief resident and joining the Division of General Internal Medicine in 1981. He served as Program Director of the Housestaff Training Program for 5 years and, subsequently, 5 years as the Chairman of the Division of General Internal Medicine.
Dr. Centor's research interests have focused on the area of medical decision making. He has published widely in the diagnosis and management of adult sore throats. Recently, he has focused on helping physicians practice high-quality medicine. This work stems from a long-standing interest in education and educational techniques. The work uses modern theories of adult learning to inform research aimed at helping physicians better adhere to highly accepted guidelines.

Molly Cooke, MD
Molly Cooke, MDMolly Cooke, MD, FACP, Professor of Medicine, holds the William G. Irwin Endowed Chair as Director of the Academy of Medical Educators at the University of California, San Francisco. The Academy of Medical Educators was established to serve as a resource for medical school faculty who demonstrate a significant commitment to medical education. Dr. Cooke is a Senior Scholar of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, where she co-directs a national study of medical education. She has twice received the Kaiser Family Foundation Teaching Award as well as a UCSF Academic Senate Award for Distinction in Teaching, and in 2006 she was awarded the AOA/Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teacher Award by the Association of American Medical Colleges. A practicing internist with a strong interest in HIV, Dr. Cooke is Governor of the Northern California chapter of the American College of Physicians and the Chair-elect of the Board of Governors.

Daniel Egan, MD
Daniel Egan, MDDaniel Egan, MD, is an attending physician in the Emergency Department at St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan, an affiliate of New York Medical College. Dr. Egan is a 2002 graduate of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, where he was president of the student council and a member of Alpha Omega Alpha. During his medical school career, Dr. Egan authored a monthly evidence-based analysis of key articles in the literature for the Medscape Med Students site. He completed a residency in emergency medicine at the Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Brigham & Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, where he served as Chief Resident during his last year. During residency, he authored a monthly Medscape Med Students column, "In Focus," about his personal experiences during residency. Dr. Egan is coauthor of Blueprints Emergency Medicine, 2nd edition, written for medical students completing their emergency medicine clerkship.

Nicholas Genes, MD, PhD
Nicholas Genes, MD, PhDNicholas Genes, MD, PhD, is a resident in the Emergency Medicine program at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. He received a bachelor's degree in science from Brown University, where he first developed his interests in medicine, research, and writing. After college, he enrolled in the MD/PhD program at the University of Massachusetts, pursuing a medical degree while studying chondrocyte mechanotransduction in Dr. Charles Vacanti's laboratory for tissue engineering. In the course of writing a freelance article, he discovered the world of medical Weblogs, and he has been active in this nascent community ever since. In 2004, he founded "Grand Rounds," a weekly compilation of the best medical blogs, hosted by a different blogger each week. He writes about that project in a weekly column, "Pre-Rounds," for the Medscape Med Students site. He also writes regularly on his own blog, blogborygmi.com, and is a partner in medgadget.com, a blog about emerging medical technologies.

James Linder, MD
James Linder, MDJames Linder, MD, is Professor of Pathology and Associate Vice Chancellor for Research at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. He also serves as the President of UNeMed Corporation, the technology transfer group of the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Dr. Linder trained at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and at Duke University, Durham, North Carolina. At the University of Nebraska he has led the adoption of new educational approaches through his previous role as Interim Dean of Medicine and in his current role as Associate Vice Chancellor for Research. Dr. Linder's academic interests have centered on the application of new technology in medical diagnostics, including immunochemistry, molecular diagnostics, and computer-assisted imaging. He has a strong interest in computer-aided instruction and in medical student education.

Bernice B. Rumala, MA
Bernice B. Rumala, MABernice B. Rumala, MA, is pursuing an MD degree at the University of Toledo College of Medicine in Toledo, Ohio, and a PhD degree at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She is a native of Harlem, New York City, and earned a master's degree in health education from Columbia University in New York. She served as chapter president of the Student National Medical Association (NMA) and as NMA student section liaison. She is a 2007 recipient of an American Psychiatric Association research fellowship. Her manuscript, "Recruitment of Underrepresented Minority Students: Minority Medical Student Organization, An Untapped Resource," was published in the Journal of the National Medical Association in September 2007. She is also the founding president of the National Academic Medicine Student Interest Group (NAMSIG), a group aimed at increasing exposure, networking opportunities, and access to academic medicine mentors at the medical student level.
